KOCHI: The multifaceted talents of veteran Malayalam playback singer P. Jayachandran, extending beyond his melodious voice to encompass remarkable acting skills, are being revisited. Jayachandran’s memorable roles included the languid Thirumeni in *Nakkakshthangal* and Narayanankutty, the lodge owner’s father, in *Trivandrum Lodge*. His portrayal of Thirumeni, a benevolent and humorous Namboodiri Brahmin, was particularly lauded, playing a pivotal role in the film’s narrative. He also contributed his vocal talents to the film, singing songs like “Kevala Marthya Bhasha Kelkkatha Devadoothikkaanu Nee” and “Vreelaabharithayaay.” His acting credits also extend to K.G. George’s *Lekha’s Maranam*, where he played himself in a flashback sequence, and O. Ramdas’s *Krishnap Parunthu* (1979), starring alongside renowned actors like Sreevidya, Ambika, K.P. Ummer, and Madhu, where he sang “Anjanashillayile” and “Thrisshivappooru,” as well as a duet with Yesudas, “Janmanantham”. These performances showcase the versatility of a true artist whose contributions extended far beyond singing.
