**Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh:** A 36-year-old woman in Hardoi district has sparked outrage after allegedly abandoning her husband and six children to elope with a beggar. The husband, 45-year-old Raju, reported the incident to police, leading to the registration of a case under Section 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Raju stated that his wife, Rajeshwari, left their home in Harpalpur on January 3rd, taking with her the money he earned from selling a buffalo. He suspects she eloped with a local beggar, Nanhe Pandit, 45, who frequently interacted with her. Police have confirmed that Rajeshwari has been found and her statement is being recorded. However, the investigation continues to locate Nanhe Pandit.
Section 87 of the BNS, under which the FIR was registered, pertains to kidnapping or abducting a woman with the intent to compel her into marriage against her will, or to force or seduce her into illicit intercourse. The offense carries a potential sentence of up to ten years imprisonment and a fine.
