**Bengaluru, January 7, 2025** – Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, announced Tuesday that a new Railway Protection Force (RPF) training center will be established in K.R. Nagar, Mysuru district, Karnataka. The project, promised by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw following a meeting with Kumaraswamy in Delhi, is expected to receive a central investment of ₹150-200 crore. The center will provide training for 600 personnel annually.
The proposal, highlighting the need for improved railway safety in the Mysuru region, utilizes the site of the old, relocated K.R. Nagar railway station, eliminating the need for land acquisition. Kumaraswamy emphasized the center’s potential to generate significant employment opportunities for local youth.
In addition to the RPF training center, several other railway infrastructure proposals received positive responses, including a railway flyover near Ramanagara and Channapatna, upgrades to Sakleshpur station, and a new Mumbai-Bengaluru-Mangaluru train route via Hassan. Further proposals included a broad-gauge line in Koppal district and a new line connecting Hejjala, Kanakapura, Malavalli, Kollegal, Yelandur, and Chamarajanagar.
Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy continued his criticism of the Karnataka state government, claiming outstanding dues to contractors totaling ₹32,000 crore. He detailed the outstanding amounts across various departments, including ₹14,600 crore in Water Resources, ₹10,000 crore in Public Works, and significant sums in other sectors.
