**PASADENA, CA** – A devastating wrong-way crash on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena claimed the lives of two people and left four others injured Sunday morning. The collision, involving at least four vehicles, occurred just after 8 a.m. on the westbound lanes near North San Rafael Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a vehicle entered the freeway from the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp and traveled eastbound in the westbound lanes. The wrong-way driver, who was the sole occupant of their vehicle, was among the fatalities. A second victim died en route to the hospital. The identities of both deceased individuals are pending release.
Three other individuals sustained moderate injuries, while one person suffered minor injuries. Among the injured were a mother and her teenage daughter, and a father and his teenage son. Their specific conditions have not been publicly disclosed.
The impact of the crash resulted in a significant closure of the freeway for several hours while CHP officers investigated and cleared the scene. ABC7 news crews observed at least three severely damaged vehicles. One witness reported seeing a vehicle on fire immediately following the collision. A CHP helicopter employed thermal imaging to ensure no victims were ejected from the vehicles.
The CHP is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.
