**NEW DELHI, January 7, 2025** – India’s fuel demand experienced a 2.1% rise in December 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, according to data released Tuesday by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC). Total fuel consumption reached 20.67 million metric tons.

The increase was driven primarily by strong growth in petrol and diesel sales. Petrol consumption surged by 10.8%, reaching 3.3 million tons, while diesel consumption saw a 6% increase, totaling 8.1 million tons. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sales also rose, up 5.8% to 2.78 million tons. However, naphtha sales declined by 22.7% to 1.07 million tons.

Other sectors showed varied performance. Bitumen sales, used in road construction, increased by 6.6%, and fuel oil consumption rose by a modest 1.1%.
