**New Delhi, January 8, 2025** – The Indian Navy showcased its commitment to maritime safety by providing emergency fuel to a distressed Malaysian-flagged sailing vessel in the Indian Ocean. The vessel, carrying five Chinese nationals, was reported to be running low on fuel approximately 225 nautical miles west of Indira Point on January 4th.
Responding to a distress call relayed through the Indian Navy’s Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), the Navy swiftly deployed a surveillance aircraft to monitor the vessel’s position. INS Kirch was then diverted to provide assistance.
On January 7th, INS Kirch intercepted the vessel and supplied 1,000 liters of fuel, enabling it to safely continue its voyage to its next port. The Indian Navy emphasized its continued dedication to ensuring the safety of all mariners within the Indian Ocean Region.
