Tue Jan 07 21:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Mumbai Art Exhibit Showcases India’s Health Journeys
**Mumbai, January 8, 2025** – A powerful new art exhibition, “Art for Health,” opened at Mumbai’s Jehangir Art Gallery on January 7th, showcasing 45 paintings that tell the inspiring stories of health survivors and their caregivers across India. The exhibition, running until January 13th, is a collaboration between 36 artists, doctors, patients, and their families, part of the Rang De Neela initiative founded in 2022 by Ami Shah and Dr. Rajiv Kovil.
The initiative, inspired by the World Health Organization’s recognition of art’s role in healing, aims to improve health literacy and promote positive health behaviors. The artworks depict a wide range of health challenges, including cancer, organ transplants, pediatric illnesses, mental health issues, and women’s health concerns.
Each painting is based on a true story, collected through Zoom interviews with patients and their doctors. Notable stories include that of Daisy D’Costa, India’s first female bypass surgery patient, whose story is depicted in Vijay Gille’s “A New Beat”; actor Shreyas Talpade’s near-fatal cardiac arrest, poignantly captured in Pratap Badatya’s “Divine Intervention”; and the harrowing journey of an alcoholic man from Gadchiroli, illustrated in Rohan (Rishi) Dayal’s “The Glass Maze.”
“The exhibition aims to inspire viewers not only to survive but to thrive,” said Dr. Kovil, co-founder of Rang De Neela. Shah added that the project aims to eventually create 100 canvases, each representing a different illness. The collection is expected to tour art galleries across India. The exhibition is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
