Wed Jan 08 04:35:59 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Choked by Dense Fog, Air Quality Deteriorates
**New Delhi, India** – A thick blanket of fog engulfed Delhi early Wednesday morning, plunging visibility to zero at its worst and causing significant disruption. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that visibility at Palam airport dropped to a mere 50 meters at midnight, briefly improving to 500 meters before disappearing completely again by 5:30 am. Westerly winds remained light throughout the night.
The drastic decrease in visibility coincided with a sharp drop in temperature. The minimum temperature plummeted to 7.4 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees above normal, compared to 10.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The maximum temperature is forecast to reach around 16 degrees Celsius.
The poor weather conditions contributed to a deterioration in air quality. The Central Pollution Control Board recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 334 at 9 am, placing Delhi in the “very poor” category, a downgrade from Tuesday’s “poor” AQI. This comes as a concern, following recent warnings regarding the health impacts of poor air quality.
