Wed Jan 08 04:11:25 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Elections Scheduled for February 5, 2025

**New Delhi, January 7, 2025** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced today that the Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 5, 2025, with results declared on February 8th. The elections will be contested across all 70 assembly constituencies.

The announcement comes as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), currently in power, prepares to defend its strong majority against a challenge from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Congress, which failed to win a single seat in the last two elections, is also vying for a resurgence. While AAP and Congress are part of the INDIA alliance, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has ruled out any possibility of a pre-poll alliance with the Congress.

The 2020 Assembly elections saw a landslide victory for AAP, which secured 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP won eight seats. The current sitting MLAs represent a mix of parties, with AAP holding a significant majority. Several MLAs have switched parties since the last election, with some defecting from AAP to the BJP. The complete list of current MLAs and their constituencies is available. The term of the current Delhi Assembly ends on February 23, 2025. The upcoming election will be closely watched, particularly given the strong performance of AAP in recent years and the BJP’s determined efforts to gain ground in the capital.
