Tue Jan 07 17:55:23 UTC 2025: ## Bangladesh Revokes Sheikh Hasina’s Passport Amid Crackdown Probe
**New Delhi, January 7, 2025** – The Bangladesh government revoked the passport of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 96 others on Tuesday, citing their involvement in the crackdown on protesters during the July-August 2024 uprising. The move comes as the interim government, led by Chief Advisor Prof. Mohammad Yunus, continues its investigation into the events surrounding the protests.
According to Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, the Chief Advisor’s Deputy Press Secretary, 22 passports were cancelled due to alleged involvement in enforced disappearances, while 75 others, including Sheikh Hasina’s, were revoked for their alleged role in the July killings. The identities of the remaining 75 individuals remain undisclosed.
The revocation of Ms. Hasina’s passport is expected to significantly impact her current stay in India, where she has been residing since leaving Dhaka on August 5th. Furthermore, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit has instructed all banks and financial institutions to provide transaction details for Ms. Hasina, her family members, including her sister Rehana and children Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul, and others. This action suggests a broader financial investigation is underway. The interim government had previously indicated its intention to revoke Ms. Hasina’s passport following its inauguration.
