Tue Jan 07 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Tallahassee Homeless Outreach Team Prepares for Sub-Freezing Temperatures
**Tallahassee, FL** – With the coldest temperatures of the season expected to hit Northeast Tallahassee this week, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Street Team is working to ensure the city’s vulnerable population has access to warmth and shelter. Many experiencing homelessness were unaware of the impending cold snap, according to Deputy Neely Cook.
The team is actively informing individuals living on the streets about the availability of local shelters and providing bus passes to the Kearney Center, which is open to single adults (18+) through Thursday night. Families with children can seek refuge at the HOPE Community Center, and youth aged 10-17 can find assistance at Capital City Youth Services.
Beyond shelter, additional resources are available through 211, as well as organizations like Elder Care Services and senior centers, according to Interim CEO Kay Meyer-Ignacio. Call Supervisor Anthony Lanh highlighted the need for support beyond basic shelter, emphasizing that the severe weather can exacerbate existing problems, leading to a need for crisis counseling.
The outreach team plans to continue checking on individuals throughout the week to ensure their well-being. Those wishing to contribute can find donation wish lists on the websites of the Kearney Center and Capital City Youth Services.
