Tue Jan 07 16:18:25 IST 2025: ## South Korean Court Re-issues Warrant for Impeached President Yoon’s Detention
**Seoul, South Korea –** South Korea’s Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIOHRO) secured a renewed court warrant on Tuesday to detain impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol. This follows a failed attempt last week, thwarted by the presidential security service.
The initial warrant, issued by the Seoul Western District Court, allowed for Yoon’s detention and a search of his residence. The warrant was sought following Yoon’s refusal to cooperate with an investigation into a controversial December 3rd martial law decree.
Last Friday, a tense standoff ensued when CIOHRO investigators, accompanied by police, attempted to detain Yoon at his residence. The presidential security service prevented the arrest after a five-hour confrontation. Investigators did not attempt a second arrest before the previous warrant expired on Monday.
The CIOHRO has not yet disclosed the validity period of the new warrant. The situation remains highly sensitive, with the ongoing investigation focusing on the circumstances surrounding the December 3rd decree.
