Tue Jan 07 02:22:01 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu SHRC Awards ₹8 Lakh Compensation in 2010 Police Brutality Case
**Chennai, January 7, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered ₹8 lakh in compensation to S. Sivakami, the daughter of a retired sub-inspector, for police excesses that led to her husband’s death in 2010. The incident occurred in Mottanampatti village, Dindigul district.
The SHRC, in an order issued on Monday by member V. Kannadasan, attributed the death of Senthilkumar to police brutality. The Commission’s investigation confirmed allegations that Senthilkumar was detained, tortured, and assaulted at the Vadamadurai police station. While three of the involved policemen were convicted in 2021, the SHRC found four officers culpable of human rights violations: former SSIs A. Perumal and A.P. Subramanian, and former head constables M. Karuppaiah and S. Singarayar. The SHRC ordered the state government to pay Sivakami ₹8 lakh, while ₹4 lakh will be recovered from the four guilty officers. The compensation is in response to a complaint filed by Sivakami in April 2010, detailing the events leading to her husband’s death.
