**TIRUCHIRAPALLI, January 7, 2025** – Joshi Nirmal Kumar assumed his duties as Inspector-General of Police (Central Zone) on Tuesday. With a distinguished career spanning various roles including Superintendent of Police in Karur and Tiruvannamalai, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Chennai, and Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Dindigul Range), Mr. Kumar’s appointment signals a renewed focus on law enforcement in the nine districts under his jurisdiction.

In a press release, Mr. Kumar emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and illegal sales of narcotics, including ganja and banned tobacco products. He vowed to utilize the Goondas Act to detain those involved in such activities. Further, he instructed Superintendents of Police to prioritize the reduction of crimes against women and children, and to crack down on illegal sand mining and arrack sales. A stern warning was issued against rowdies and anti-social elements threatening public safety. Mr. Kumar previously served as IG, Civil Supplies, CID, for a year and a half before this appointment.
