Tue Jan 07 15:10:23 UTC 2025: **Tiruchi Surgeons Successfully Remove 1.5kg Liver Tumor**

**Tiruchirappalli, January 7, 2025** – Surgeons at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Tiruchirappalli performed a life-saving operation on Monday, successfully removing a 1.5kg tumor from a 75-year-old patient’s liver.

The patient, a resident of Thirunedunkulam, was admitted on December 26th with abdominal pain. Tests revealed a large (15cm x 10cm) hepatocellular carcinoma on his right liver lobe. A team led by Dr. R.R. Kannan, under the guidance of MGMGH’s medical superintendent and dean, performed a four-hour operation involving a right hepatectomy – removal of a significant portion of the liver (up to 60%). The complexity of the procedure stemmed from the liver’s high blood flow (1200ml/minute), requiring meticulous dissection of blood vessels.

The hospital released a statement confirming the successful surgery and outlining the patient’s ongoing post-operative care, which includes pain management, liver function monitoring, and follow-up imaging to detect any recurrence. The successful surgery highlights the advanced surgical capabilities available at the MGMGH.
