Mon Jan 06 02:52:46 UTC 2025: ## New Orleans Truck Attack: Lone Wolf Terrorist Inspired by ISIS Kills 14

**New Orleans, LA (January 6, 2025)** – A lone wolf terrorist attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter on New Year’s Day left 14 dead and several injured. The perpetrator, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen and former Army soldier, was fatally shot by police after a gunfight. FBI officials confirmed Jabbar, inspired by the Islamic State (ISIS) militant group, acted alone, though investigations into potential associates are ongoing.

Jabbar’s meticulously planned attack involved planting two unexploded explosive devices near Bourbon Street. He had previously visited New Orleans twice, in October and November, using Meta glasses to record video of the French Quarter during a reconnaissance mission. He also purchased a semi-automatic rifle legally in Texas in November. While he wore livestreaming glasses during the attack, he did not activate the livestream. The FBI released videos from Jabbar’s planning trip and the attack itself.

Prior to the attack, Jabbar traveled to Cairo and Canada. The significance of these trips is currently under investigation. The attack has raised serious concerns about security measures in the French Quarter, particularly the failure of recently installed bollards to prevent vehicle access. Mayor LaToya Cantrell has requested a thorough assessment of the bollards’ effectiveness and requested higher federal security support for Mardi Gras.

President Biden plans to visit New Orleans on Monday to offer condolences to the victims’ families. The attack is the deadliest ISIS-inspired assault on U.S. soil in years, highlighting the growing threat of homegrown violent extremism, according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Security measures have been heightened at Camp Pendleton in California in response to the attack. The investigation continues.
