Tue Jan 07 12:52:54 UTC 2025: ## Teen with Haemophilia Saved by Doctors in Salem

**Salem, Tamil Nadu, January 7, 2025** – Doctors at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital (GMKMCH) in Salem have successfully saved the life of a 17-year-old haemophilia patient. The youth, diagnosed with the bleeding disorder at age four, was admitted with severe pain and swelling in his left eye, resulting from a childhood accident. He had previously developed antibodies to factor VIII, complicating treatment.

Facing total corneal opacity and eye protrusion, surgeons performed an emergency evisceration. To manage the high risk of bleeding associated with haemophilia, the medical team administered Factor Eight Inhibitor Bypassing Activity (FEIBA). While minor bleeding occurred in the initial postoperative period, it was successfully controlled with further FEIBA infusions. After a total of ten days of treatment and observation, the patient was discharged. Doctors stated that without the surgery, the patient risked life-threatening sclera rupture and bleeding. The successful surgery highlights the expertise of the GMKMCH medical team in managing complex cases of haemophilia.
