**TIRUPPUR, January 6, 2025** – Farmers in Tiruppur district, Tamil Nadu, are anxiously awaiting government compensation after hundreds of their livestock, including over 270 hens at a single poultry farm, were killed by packs of stray dogs. The attacks, which have also targeted goats and sheep across several villages including Kangayam, Uthukuli, Vellakovil, and Dharapuram, have caused significant losses for the farming community.
Following a recent spate of attacks, the Animal Husbandry Department, advised by the district administration, initiated a 45-day enumeration process in November to assess the losses and determine compensation eligibility. A proposal has been sent to the state government, but farmers are growing impatient as no order regarding compensation has yet been issued.
While initially showing restraint at the request of local officials, farmers are now threatening further action if the government fails to deliver on its promise of compensation.
