**New Delhi, January 7, 2025** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 5th, 2025, with votes counted on February 8th. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar made the announcement today.
The last date for filing nominations is January 17th, with scrutiny of nominations on January 18th. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until January 20th. The election will be a single-phase poll, deliberately scheduled for a Wednesday to encourage higher voter turnout, mirroring a strategy used in Maharashtra.
Simultaneously, by-elections will be held for two Assembly constituencies: Milkipur in Uttar Pradesh and Erode in Tamil Nadu. The ECI also noted that India is on track to surpass one billion voters.
