**New Delhi, January 7, 2025** – Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a “large-scale fraud” in the New Delhi Assembly constituency’s electoral roll. She alleged that approximately 10% of new voters were fraudulently added, while 5.5% of existing names were deleted. Atishi described the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) response as “highly suspicious,” claiming that despite overwhelming evidence, no investigation has been launched.
Atishi presented evidence of 6,167 applications for name deletions, with 4,283 filed by just 84 individuals. She stated that these individuals denied submitting the applications when summoned by the ECI, highlighting the alleged irregularities. She has written to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar seeking an appointment and investigation into the matter.
The Delhi BJP president, Virendra Sachdeva, countered these accusations, attributing Atishi’s claims to “desperation” ahead of the upcoming elections where Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), Parvesh Sahib Singh (BJP), and Sandeep Dikshit (Congress) are contesting. Sachdeva stated that Resident Welfare Associations are actively working to remove “fake” voters from the rolls.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has yet to respond to the allegations. The accusations have heightened tensions in the lead-up to the crucial New Delhi Assembly elections.
