**Kathmandu/New Delhi –** A devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Xizang, Tibet, near the Nepalese border early this morning, claiming the lives of at least 95 people. The quake, which hit at 6:35 am local time according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), sent tremors across a wide area, including several Indian states.
Strong shaking was reported in Patna and Guwahati, India, where residents fled their homes and apartments in fear. The NCS confirmed that two smaller aftershocks followed the initial quake later in the morning. The full extent of the damage and casualties is still being assessed.
