The move is necessitated by a recent Madras High Court ruling, which stated that elections cannot be held until the delimitation process is complete.
The affected bodies include 28 district panchayats, over 9,600 village panchayats, and over 300 panchayat unions. The government plans to introduce legislation in the upcoming Assembly session to formally authorize the appointment of these special officers until new elections can be conducted.
