Mon Jan 06 04:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Indian Schools Lack Basic Tech Infrastructure: Government Report Reveals Shocking Statistics
**New Delhi:** A new government report has revealed a stark reality about the state of technology in India’s schools. The Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE+) data, released by the Ministry of Education, shows a significant gap between claims of high-tech education and the actual infrastructure available.
Only 57.2% of schools have functional computers, and a mere 53.9% have internet access. The report also highlighted that just 52.3% of schools have ramp railings, indicating accessibility challenges. These findings cast doubt on the efficacy of technology-driven learning in a substantial portion of the nation’s schools.
Furthermore, school admissions have declined. The 2023-24 academic year saw a drop of 37 lakh admissions compared to the previous year – a decrease of 16 lakh boys and 21 lakh girls. Total enrollment fell from 25.17 crore in 2022-23 to 24.80 crore in 2023-24. The report raises serious concerns about access to education and the digital divide within the country. The government is yet to comment on the findings and any potential remedial measures.
