**Patna, Bihar –** Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor was arrested Monday morning while conducting an indefinite hunger strike at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan. Police forcibly removed Kishor, who was protesting alleged irregularities in a Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam, and transported him to AIIMS Patna. Sources report he has refused treatment and intends to continue his fast unto death.
Kishor and several supporters were arrested for illegally protesting in a restricted area of Gandhi Maidan. Senior Superintendent of Police Awakash Kumar stated that despite warnings and ample time to disperse, the protestors remained, leading to the arrests. Police have filed an FIR and stated they will proceed with the legal process.
Kishor initiated his hunger strike on January 2nd in solidarity with students demanding the cancellation of the December 13th BPSC exam, citing alleged paper leaks. He had previously stated his party would file a petition with the Patna High Court on January 7th addressing the exam irregularities. The protest location is several kilometers from where students have been staging a demonstration for over two weeks.
The arrest sparked a flurry of activity, captured in videos showing police forcibly removing Kishor and other protesters. The incident follows a weekend controversy regarding a luxury van parked near Kishor’s protest site. Kishor defended the van’s presence, claiming it was necessary to avoid accusations of breaking his fast if he left the site to use restroom facilities.
The situation remains tense as the controversy surrounding the BPSC exam and Kishor’s arrest continues to unfold. The legal proceedings and the students’ ongoing protest are expected to dominate headlines in the coming days.
