Mon Jan 06 03:24:26 UTC 2025: ## Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti Celebrated Across India
**New Delhi, January 6, 2025** – Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, a significant holiday for the Sikh community, was observed across India today, January 6th, commemorating the birth of the tenth and final Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. The day honors his teachings, sacrifices, and unwavering dedication.
Born on December 22, 1666, in Patna Sahib, Bihar, Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa Panth in 1699 on Baisakhi. He instituted the five Ks (Kesh, Kara, Kirpan, Kangha, and Kachera) as symbols of Sikh identity. His life is characterized by immense sacrifice, including the ultimate sacrifice of his four sons – Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh – in defense of his faith and humanity.
Celebrations across the country included traditional events: morning processions (Prabhat Feri) featuring devotional singing (Shabad Kirtan), continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib (Akhand Path) in Gurdwaras, communal meals (Langar), and further devotional singing emphasizing Guru Gobind Singh’s teachings and devotion.
Guru Gobind Singh’s teachings emphasized: speaking out against injustice, equality amongst all humans, selfless service to humanity, the ideal of the “saint-soldier” (combining spirituality and strength), and upholding truth and righteousness through courage and sacrifice. His legacy continues to inspire Sikhs and others worldwide.
