Mon Jan 06 18:12:15 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Airport to Get Satellite Terminal to Ease Congestion

**Chennai, January 6, 2025** – The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has submitted a proposal to the Tamil Nadu government for the construction of a new satellite terminal at Chennai Airport. The move aims to alleviate growing congestion at the existing facility, which currently handles 65,000-66,000 passengers daily.

The satellite terminal, to be built near the airport’s remote parking bays, will include a multi-level car park and office space, and will be accessed via National Highway 32. The AAI plans to construct an elevated corridor connecting the terminal to the highway. The project, initially proposed seven years ago, was revived last year due to increasing passenger traffic and the need to expand airport capacity before the completion of a new airport in Parandur, expected in at least three years.

The AAI requires only permission from the state government to build the elevated corridor, having already secured necessary clearances from the Central Pollution Control Board and the Water Resources Department. The new terminal will feature additional aerobridges to improve passenger flow and facilitate the attraction of more airlines. The AAI is awaiting the state government’s response to their proposal.
