Sun Jan 05 12:50:00 UTC 2025: ## VfB Stuttgart Faces Ajax Amsterdam in Sold-Out Friendly

**Stuttgart, Germany** – VfB Stuttgart will kick off their 2025 season with a high-profile friendly against Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam this Sunday at 2 PM local time. The match, taking place at the Robert-Schlienz-Stadion, is a sell-out, with no tickets available on the day.

VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth explained the choice of opponent, stating the club wanted a “real tough test” early in their preparations, given the short timeframe before their next match against FC Augsburg. Ajax’s willingness to travel to Stuttgart further cemented the decision.

Several key VfB players remain sidelined due to injury, including El Bilal (metatarsal), Justin Diehl (thigh), and Dan-Axel Zagadou (knee). However, Jamie Leweling, Deniz Undav, and Luca Raimund have returned to full training.

Ajax, currently six points behind Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven, are aiming to close the gap. They will play their first league match of 2025 on January 11th, a day before the Stuttgart friendly. The Amsterdam club is also performing well in the UEFA Europa League, currently positioned for the knockout rounds.

The match will feature a reunion with several familiar faces for Bundesliga fans. Ajax midfielders Davy Klaassen (formerly of Werder Bremen) and Wout Weghorst (formerly of Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim) are currently the club’s top scorers. Goalkeeper Diant Ramaj, born in Stuttgart, also boasts two Bundesliga appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt. Ajax captain Jordan Henderson, a UEFA Champions League winner with Liverpool in 2019, adds further star power.

Fans without tickets can still watch the game via a free livestream on VfB TV’s YouTube channel, or on Sky Sport News HD, the Sky Sport app, and Sky Sport DE’s YouTube channel.
