Sun Jan 05 12:50:00 UTC 2025: **Hyderabad’s New Charlapally Railway Terminal Opens, Easing Congestion**

HYDERABAD, INDIA – The much-anticipated Charlapally railway terminal in Hyderabad is set to open on Monday, offering much-needed relief to the city’s burgeoning railway passenger traffic. Built at a cost of ₹428 crore, the state-of-the-art terminal features an airport-like design and modern amenities.

Currently, Hyderabad’s railway services are primarily concentrated at three main terminals: Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda, leading to significant congestion. The new Charlapally terminal aims to alleviate this pressure, accommodating approximately 50,000 passengers daily and reducing travel time significantly.

The terminal boasts 19 tracks, enabling faster transit and increased frequency of trains. Initially, 25 train pairs will halt at Charlapally, a number expected to rise to 50 daily. Several long-distance trains, including the Gorakhpur-Secunderabad Express, MG R Chennai Central-Hyderabad Express, and Shalimar-Hyderabad East Coast Express, will now operate from Charlapally, potentially reducing the strain on Secunderabad station. Other trains to stop at Charlapally include the Guntur-Secunderabad Golconda Express and Secunderabad-Sirpur Kagaznagar Express.

The new terminal offers nine platforms, including two MMTS platforms, six escalators, and two foot-over bridges. Passengers will also benefit from air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned waiting halls, food courts, restaurants, reservation counters, and ticket counters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the Charlapally Railway Terminal at 10:30 AM on Monday. Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi, will also attend the inauguration ceremony in Charlapally. The new terminal is expected to significantly reduce the passenger load on Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda railway stations.
