Sun Jan 05 12:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Hurricanes Storm Past Strikers Thanks to David’s Blitz

**Hobart, Tasmania –** Tim David’s explosive 62 off 28 balls powered the Hobart Hurricanes to a thrilling five-wicket victory over the Adelaide Strikers in a Big Bash League encounter at Blundstone Arena on Sunday. Chasing a challenging 187, the Hurricanes initially stumbled after a blistering start, losing wickets in quick succession. However, David’s counter-attack, featuring six sixes and three fours, turned the tide decisively.

The Hurricanes’ chase began with a bang, as Mitchell Owen (37 off 16) and Matthew Wade (27 off 18) smashed a 61-run opening stand in just 28 balls. Owen’s onslaught included three consecutive sixes off Jamie Overton. But the Strikers fought back, with Lloyd Pope claiming two wickets and Cameron Boyce adding another two, leaving the Hurricanes reeling at 101/4 in the 11th over.

Then David took center stage. He launched a brutal assault, smashing Henry Thornton and Overton for a combined 42 runs in two overs, including three sixes off Overton alone. His 22-ball fifty included another six off Pope before he finally helped guide the Hurricanes home alongside Chris Jordan.

Earlier, the Strikers posted a competitive 186/5 thanks to contributions from Chris Lynn (49 off 27) and Alex Ross (47 off 29). Lynn’s aggressive innings included several powerful sixes, while Ross anchored a crucial partnership with Ollie Pope. However, Waqar Salamkheil’s 2-22 helped keep the Strikers’ total in check.

Despite a late flourish from Jamie Overton (27* off 18), the Strikers’ efforts were ultimately overshadowed by David’s explosive display, securing a hard-fought win for the Hurricanes with eight balls to spare. The victory moved the Hurricanes to their fourth win in five matches.
