**Bengaluru, January 5, 2025** – A 28-year-old postgraduate student at the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIMB), Nilay Kailashbhai Patel, died on Saturday after falling from the third floor of his hostel building. The incident occurred on Patel’s birthday, after he had returned to campus following a celebration with friends off-campus.
According to police reports, Patel was visiting a friend’s room when he reportedly lost his balance and fell. A security guard discovered him injured and alerted authorities. Patel was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Mico Layout Police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and are awaiting the arrival of Patel’s parents from Gujarat to file a formal complaint before initiating further investigations. IIMB released a statement expressing sorrow over the loss of the “bright student and much-loved friend.” The institute described Patel as being sorely missed by the IIMB community.
