**Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, January 5, 2025** – Despite a ban, preparations for illegal rooster fights are underway in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts ahead of the Sankranthi festival. Organizers are reportedly finding new, secluded locations to circumvent police efforts to stop the bloody spectacle.
While police claim to be monitoring the situation and have made some arrests and seizures, punters are actively preparing roosters, some costing between ₹10,000 and ₹50,000, for the fights. This year, the betting stakes are reportedly higher than usual, with bets ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh in the Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts. The involvement of NRIs and young people from major cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi is also reported.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Annepu Narasimha Murthy stated that the police are actively monitoring the situation and urged citizens to report any information regarding illegal rooster fights.
