Sun Jan 05 14:04:23 UTC 2025: ## OYO Restricts Hotel Bookings for Unmarried Couples in India
**New Delhi, India** – Hotel booking platform OYO has implemented a new check-in policy prohibiting unmarried couples from booking rooms in its partner hotels. The policy, initially rolled out in Meerut, requires all couples to provide proof of their relationship upon check-in, regardless of booking method.
OYO stated that the decision follows requests from citizen groups and local residents in Meerut and other cities. The company maintains that it empowers its partner hotels to refuse bookings from unmarried couples at their discretion, citing the need to align with local sensitivities. While respecting individual freedom, OYO emphasizes its commitment to responsible hospitality practices and working with law enforcement and civil society groups.
Pavas Sharma, OYO’s North India regional head, explained that the company aims to offer a safe and reliable service for families, students, business travelers, religious tourists, and solo travelers. The policy’s effectiveness will be regularly reviewed. OYO has instructed its partner hotels in Meerut to implement the new rules immediately, with potential expansion to other cities pending assessment of the policy’s impact and feedback.
