Sun Jan 05 14:31:14 UTC 2025: ## OYO Bans Unmarried Couples from Hotels in Meerut, India

**Meerut, India** – Budget hotel booking platform OYO has implemented a new policy banning unmarried couples from checking into its affiliated hotels in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Beginning in 2025, couples will be required to provide proof of their relationship, such as a marriage certificate, to secure a room.

The policy change, announced recently, is currently limited to Meerut but may be expanded to other cities depending on its effectiveness and feedback. Reports suggest the decision follows pressure from local residents and civil society groups concerned about unmarried couples staying in hotels.

OYO, which operates in over 30 countries and boasts a network of over 150,000 hotels, has justified the move as a means to build customer trust and encourage longer stays and repeat bookings. The new guidelines apply to all couples, including those booking online. The company intends to monitor the situation closely before considering a wider rollout of the policy across its network.
