**New Delhi, India** – Dense fog caused significant disruption at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for a second consecutive day, leading to widespread flight delays, cancellations, and diversions. On Saturday, at least 19 flights were diverted between 12:15 am and 1:30 am due to poor visibility, including 13 domestic, four international, and two non-scheduled flights. Flight tracking website Flightradar24.com reported over 400 flight delays, and more than 45 flights were cancelled due to weather conditions at Delhi and other airports.
The low visibility forced India’s largest airline, IndiGo, to temporarily halt all arrivals and departures early Saturday morning. While operations have resumed, flights without CAT III (Category III) landing capabilities, which allow operation in low visibility, may continue to face disruptions. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) apologized for any inconvenience caused.
Air India also acknowledged the impact of the dense fog on flight operations across northern India. The fog, which persisted throughout the day, also affected other airports, including Chandigarh, Amritsar, Srinagar, Guwahati, and Patna, according to IndiGo. The airline assured passengers that their teams were working to assist those affected.
IGIA typically handles around 1,300 flights daily. Friday also saw over 400 flight delays due to similar weather conditions. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight information.
