Sun Jan 05 14:09:04 UTC 2025: ## BJP Accuses Telangana Congress of Electioneering Stunt with Farmer Scheme

**Hyderabad, January 5, 2025** – The BJP has accused the ruling Congress government in Telangana of engaging in an electioneering ploy by announcing new ration cards and the Rythu Bharosa farmer support scheme ahead of local body elections. Union Minister of State for Home, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, alleges the government is financially insolvent, owing ₹19,600 crore to 70 lakh farmers for last year’s payments under the scheme, in addition to massive debts to other groups.

Kumar questioned the government’s ability to fulfill its promises, highlighting outstanding dues of ₹48,000 crore to the unemployed, ₹50,000 crore to women, and pending payments for enhanced pensions and housing schemes. He further claimed the government is mortgaging land to fund the Rythu Bharosa scheme, predicting its discontinuation after the elections due to a lack of assets to pledge.

The BJP leader asserts that the government is forced to proceed with the local body polls to avoid forfeiting ₹2,000 crore in funds from the 15th Finance Commission, leading to the hastily announced schemes. He stated that the government has already exceeded its loan limit of ₹57,000 crore and is seeking an additional ₹30,000 crore. The BJP views the government’s actions as a desperate attempt to garner votes before the crucial local elections.
