**Bijapur, Chhattisgarh:** The brutal murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar and the subsequent concealment of his body in a septic tank in Bijapur district has sent shockwaves across Chhattisgarh. Chandrakar, who had been investigating corruption in road construction projects, was allegedly killed by a contractor angered by his reporting.

The Congress District President of Mahasamund, Dr. Rashmi Chandrakar, strongly condemned the incident, accusing the state government of failing to maintain law and order. She demanded a thorough and impartial investigation and stringent action against the culprits.

Dr. Chandrakar stated that Chandrakar’s murder, allegedly at the hands of a contractor involved in a major Public Works Department (PWD) road scam, represents a direct attack on freedom of the press and the right to free expression. She emphasized the need for the government to take concrete steps to ensure the safety of journalists and create an environment where they can work fearlessly. She called for public unity in condemning such crimes. The police are investigating the case.
