CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA – Ryan Rickelton smashed his maiden Test double century, leading South Africa to a commanding position on day two of the second Test against Pakistan. The hosts ended the day on 429/5, extending their dominance from day one.

Rickelton’s unbeaten 213, a stunning display of batting, formed the backbone of South Africa’s impressive total. He shared a crucial 106-run partnership with Kyle Verreyne, who also contributed a stylish half-century (50*). Their partnership blossomed after the dismissal of David Bedingham (caught behind for a modest score off Mohammad Abbas), the only South African wicket to fall in the morning session.

Despite Pakistan taking the second new ball early, hoping for reverse swing, Rickelton and Bedingham successfully blunted the attack. The new ball did, however, yield the breakthrough, with Abbas’s dismissal of Bedingham proving a rare moment of success for the tourists.

Verreyne survived an early LBW appeal, and the South African batsmen then accelerated their scoring rate. Rickelton reached his double century in 266 deliveries, while Verreyne’s half-century included three sixes and several powerful boundaries. The South African pair punished the Pakistan pace bowlers, particularly Mir Hamza and Aamer Jamal, during a late flurry of runs.

Salman Ali Agha and Abbas took two wickets each for Pakistan, but their efforts were overshadowed by the exceptional batting performances of Rickelton and Verreyne, setting up a compelling final two days of the Test.
