**Bijapur, Chhattisgarh –** The body of independent journalist Mukesh Chandrakar was discovered on Friday evening in a freshly sealed septic tank in Bijapur’s Chattanpara Basti, sending shockwaves through the region and the journalism community. Chandrakar, a contributing reporter for NDTV and a popular YouTuber with over 150,000 subscribers on his channel “Bastar Junction,” had been missing since January 1st.

Police confirmed that Chandrakar’s body, showing signs of multiple injuries to the head and back, was identified by his clothing. His last known mobile location led investigators to the property of a contractor, Suresh Chandrakar, where the grim discovery was made. Three individuals, including Suresh Chandrakar, have been arrested and are being questioned in connection with the death. Police Superintendent Jitendra Yadav stated that investigators are exploring a possible link between the murder and Chandrakar’s recent reporting.

Chandrakar, known for his fearless journalism, had previously played a key role in securing the release of a kidnapped CRPF commando in 2021. His brother, also a journalist, filed a missing person report after Mukesh failed to return home on January 1st.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his condolences and vowed to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The Chief Minister’s statement on X emphasized the irreparable loss to the journalism world and promised swift arrest and harsh punishment for the perpetrators. The investigation is ongoing.
