Sat Jan 04 10:41:37 UTC 2025: ## Israeli Raid on Balata Camp Kills Palestinian Teenager, Injures Nine

**Nablus, West Bank –** An Israeli military raid on the Balata refugee camp near Nablus resulted in the death of an 18-year-old Palestinian teenager, Muhammad Medhat Amin Amer, and injuries to nine others, Palestinian officials reported Saturday. The overnight raid, which began Friday night, involved Israeli soldiers deploying snipers on surrounding rooftops, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The Israeli military stated that soldiers returned fire after being targeted with explosives, Molotov cocktails, rocks, and fireworks.

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that nine individuals sustained critical injuries during the violent clashes that erupted following the raid. The incident is the latest in a surge of violence in the occupied West Bank, escalating since the October 7th Hamas attacks in Gaza.

The Israeli military’s actions were part of a broader series of raids across the West Bank, including operations in Tuqu, Idhna, ash-Shuyukh, and Arroub refugee camp. These raids involved checkpoints, searches, the removal of Palestinian flags, and house-to-house searches.

Separately, conflicting accounts emerged regarding the death of a Palestinian father and son in the Jenin refugee camp. While their family blamed the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces, the PA denied presence in the area, attributing the deaths to fighters within the camp. The Jenin Battalion armed group also blamed the PA for the deaths of at least 16 Palestinian civilians since October. The death of a PA General Intelligence Service member in Jenin was described as an “accidental incident” by a PA official.

The escalating violence has resulted in the deaths of at least 815 Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip since October 7th, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Official Israeli figures cite at least 25 Israeli deaths from Palestinian attacks during the same period.
