Sat Jan 04 09:49:37 UTC 2025: ## India Fight Back on Day 2 of Sydney Test Despite Bumrah Injury

**Sydney, Australia –** India ended day two of the fifth and final Test against Australia in a strong position despite the injury to their captain, Jasprit Bumrah. Resuming at 9/1, Australia was bowled out for 181, giving India a slender 4-run lead. A fiery 61-run knock from Rishabh Pant propelled India to 141/6 at stumps, resulting in an overall lead of 145 runs.

The day saw a dramatic turn of events. Bumrah, who took an early wicket, left the field injured after the morning session and did not return. India’s bowling attack, however, remained potent. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna each claimed three wickets, while Bumrah and Nitish Reddy took two each. For Australia, debutant Beau Webster top-scored with 57 runs.

India’s first innings had ended on 185 runs on Day 1, with Scott Boland taking 4 wickets and Mitchell Starc 3. Rishabh Pant had scored 40, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed 26 and Bumrah 22 in a late flurry of runs.

The match has seen several changes from the previous match. Rohit Sharma’s absence due to form concerns and Akash Deep’s injury meant Jasprit Bumrah captained India with Shubman Gill and Prasidh Krishna included in the playing eleven. Australia included debutant Beau Webster in place of Mitchell Marsh.

The final day promises to be a thrilling contest. India will hope to capitalize on their lead and secure a win, while Australia will look to fight back and avoid a series draw. A draw would significantly harm India’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final.
