Sat Jan 04 11:02:42 UTC 2025: ## Bumrah Returns to Dressing Room After Back Spasm

**Melbourne, Australia:** Indian cricket captain Jasprit Bumrah returned to the dressing room after undergoing precautionary scans for a back spasm. Bumrah bowled only one over after lunch on the second day of the fifth and final Test against Australia before leaving the field.

Team India’s Prasidh Krishna confirmed that Bumrah experienced a back spasm. The medical team is monitoring him, and his availability for the remainder of the match remains uncertain. Bumrah was absent from the field for three hours and 20 minutes. His return before the start of Australia’s second innings eased concerns within the Indian camp.

In Bumrah’s absence, Virat Kohli led the team. Bumrah, who has already taken 32 wickets in the series, had taken two wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs in Australia’s first innings before experiencing discomfort. He discussed the issue with Kohli and left the field, later seen leaving the stadium with the team’s security liaison officer and team doctor.

This incident follows Bumrah’s heavy workload in the previous Melbourne Test, where he bowled a career-high 52 overs. Concerns about his workload management were raised by then-captain Rohit Sharma after that match. The absence of a designated vice-captain, as Bumrah himself held that role and was standing in for the absent Rohit Sharma, added to the team’s challenges.
