Sat Jan 04 08:30:00 UTC 2025: ## High Wind Warning Issued for Reno Area, Gusts up to 100 mph Expected

**RENO, NV (News 4 & Fox 11)** – A high wind warning is in effect for the Reno-Carson-Minden area and parts of southern Lyon, Mineral, and Mono Counties, beginning at 4 a.m. Sunday and continuing until 7 p.m. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts southwest winds of 25 to 40 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 70 mph in lower elevations and exceeding 100 mph in mountainous areas.

Wind advisories are also in place for the region, with slightly lower wind speeds anticipated. However, blowing dust is expected to significantly reduce visibility, especially near desert areas. Pyramid Lake boaters should anticipate waves of 2 to 5 feet.

The NWS urges travelers to postpone non-essential trips Sunday morning, particularly during periods of overlapping high winds and potential snowfall, as visibility will be severely impacted. Monday is recommended as a safer travel day. Residents are advised to secure loose objects and be prepared for potential power outages.
