**Parbhani, Maharashtra –** An all-party march took place in Parbhani, Maharashtra on Saturday, demanding a thorough investigation into the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed district. Deshmukh was abducted, tortured, and murdered on December 9th, allegedly for attempting to stop an extortion attempt on a local energy firm.
Six out of seven suspects have been arrested, including a close aide to Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde, Walmik Karad, who surrendered to the CID. This arrest has fueled opposition calls for Munde’s resignation.
The march, which included members of the Shiv Sena (UBT), the ruling NCP, Maratha quota leader Manoj Jarange, and Deshmukh’s family, travelled from Nutan College ground to Shivaji Maharaj’s statue. The incident follows recent unrest in Parbhani, including the vandalism of a Constitution replica and the death of a Dalit man in police custody.
