**Chennai, January 2, 2025** – Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin extended their congratulations to Tamil Nadu’s sporting heroes following the announcement of national awards. Chess grandmaster D. Gukesh will receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, India’s highest sporting honour. Four other athletes – Thulasimathi Murugesan, Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan, Manisha Ramadoss, and Abhay Singh – were awarded the Arjuna Award, recognizing their outstanding achievements.

In a social media statement, Chief Minister Stalin expressed pride in the athletes’ accomplishments and their representation of Tamil Nadu on the global stage. He voiced hope for continued growth in the number of Tamil Nadu athletes achieving national recognition.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin echoed these sentiments, wishing the awardees continued success in their careers. He also specifically commended fencer C.A. Bhavani Devi on her recent gold medal win at the Senior National Fencing Championship. The awards highlight Tamil Nadu’s strong contribution to Indian sports.
