NEW DELHI (January 3, 2025) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, calling it a “disaster” that has crippled the national capital over the past decade. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating several infrastructure projects, Modi accused the AAP of widespread corruption in sectors ranging from education to pollution control and liquor trade.
With Delhi assembly elections looming next month, Modi declared a “war” against the AAP, urging voters to oust the party and elect the BJP. He highlighted the Centre’s infrastructure development efforts in Delhi, contrasting them with what he described as the AAP’s obstructive tactics. Modi specifically cited the AAP government’s refusal to allow the implementation of the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme as an example of its failure to serve the people.
The Prime Minister also took a personal swipe at AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of prioritizing personal luxury over the needs of the city’s residents. He contrasted his own focus on affordable housing with what he termed Kejriwal’s lavish spending on his official residence, referencing it as a “sheesh mahal” (palace of mirrors). Modi emphasized that the upcoming elections present a choice between the BJP’s commitment to national development and the AAP’s alleged corruption and broken promises.
