Thu Jan 02 15:48:46 UTC 2025: ## Kozhikode Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking, Netting Hundreds of Suspects

**Kozhikode, Kerala, January 2, 2025** – A significant crackdown on drug trafficking in Kozhikode, Kerala, resulted in the arrest of 1,985 suspects under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in 2024. The operation, which involved heightened surveillance of known drug hotspots and analysis of call records from repeat offenders, led to the registration of 1,835 cases. This includes 31 cases involving the seizure of commercial quantities of drugs.

Authorities seized 3,107.52 grams of MDMA, 157 kg of ganja, and 185 grams of LSD during city-wide inspections. The majority of cases involved synthetic drug consumption, financing drug trafficking, or harboring offenders. The Kozhikode city traffic unit reported the highest number of FIRs, with a total of 3,182, including NDPS cases. Over 1,000 FIRs were filed across several other police stations within the city.

A key element of the strategy was the implementation of forfeiture measures under Section 68F(1) of the NDPS Act, resulting in the seizure of illegally acquired properties from seven repeat offenders. The process has been completed for two individuals involved in major synthetic drug trafficking cases.

In addition to enforcement, Kozhikode police launched the “No, Never” project, an anti-drug awareness campaign targeting school and college students. Utilizing social media and interactive programs, the initiative, launched in 2025, aims to reduce the demand for synthetic drugs and has already shown positive impact, according to police officials.
