**Kyiv, Ukraine** – Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 60 out of 93 Russian drones launched in a widespread attack across the country early Friday, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The assault, the latest in a series of escalating aerial bombardments by Moscow, resulted in one civilian death and four injuries in the Kyiv region.
Acting Governor Mykola Kalashnyk reported that a truck driver was killed by falling drone debris, which also damaged several homes and injured four people, including a 16-year-old. The Ukrainian Air Force attributed the loss of the remaining 26 drones to electronic warfare tactics.
The drone strikes targeted nine Ukrainian regions, causing damage to residential and commercial buildings in areas including Donetsk and Chernihiv. This follows a New Year’s Day drone attack on Kyiv that left two dead.
The intensified aerial assaults come after Ukraine reported a successful precision strike on a Russian command post in the Kursk region on Thursday. While the Russian military claimed to have intercepted four Ukrainian missiles, regional authorities confirmed damage to buildings, including an apartment block.
