Fri Jan 03 14:35:00 UTC 2025: **Karnataka Contractors Accuse Politicians of Harassment, Corruption**
**Dharwad, Karnataka – January 3, 2025** – The North Karnataka Civil Contractors Association has accused elected officials from both the ruling and opposition parties of harassing contractors and dictating terms for government projects. Association president Subhash Patil stated that MLAs and Ministers are exerting undue influence, often using middlemen, regardless of party affiliation.
Patil linked the recent death of contractor Sachin to this alleged harassment and political pressure, urging the government to take swift action to protect contractors. He highlighted several issues, including favoritism in awarding tenders, pressure on officials leading to substandard work, and the delayed or non-payment of bills. Billions of rupees in pending payments were cited, spanning various government departments.
Ravindra Mane, the association’s general secretary, corroborated these claims, citing the non-compliance with the 60-day bill payment deadline and instances where bills remain unpaid despite court orders. He also pointed to the long tenure of certain officials as a major contributor to corruption and called for their removal. Both Patil and Mane demanded strict punishment for those responsible for Sachin’s death. The association’s allegations paint a picture of widespread corruption and political interference within Karnataka’s civil contracting sector.
