**KOCHI, January 2, 2025** – M. Nigoshkumar, proprietor of Mridanga Vision, the main organizer of a mass dance event where MLA Uma Thomas suffered serious injuries after falling from a stage, was arrested by Kochi City police on Thursday. Nigoshkumar is one of five accused in a case filed by Palarivattom police for criminal negligence and attempted culpable homicide. His arrest follows an hours-long interrogation after he appeared before the investigating officer, as mandated by the High Court which is considering anticipatory bail pleas for the accused. Police have reportedly frozen a Mridanga Vision bank account containing approximately ₹38 lakh.
Another accused, P.S. Janish of Oscar Event Management, failed to appear before the investigating officer despite the High Court order.
Kochi City District Police Chief Putta Vimaladitya described Ms. Thomas’ fall, captured on video showing Nigoshkumar’s unsuccessful attempt to help her, as an “unfortunate incident.” He stated that a thorough investigation into Mridanga Vision’s finances is underway, including verification of bank accounts and documents to determine the amount collected and from whom. Witness statements are also being recorded. Mr. Vimaladitya confirmed that the Public Works Department submitted a report citing the stage’s unscientific construction.
Meanwhile, actor Divya Unni, a participant in the dance performance, has left for the United States. Police stated they have no immediate plans to question her. Charges against the organizers also include criminal breach of trust and cheating.
