**Las Vegas, NV & New Orleans, LA** – The FBI is investigating a potential link between a deadly car attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day and a suspected terrorist bombing in Las Vegas involving a Tesla Cybertruck. The New Orleans incident, which left 15 dead and several injured, has been declared a terrorist attack with ties to ISIS. The Las Vegas incident, while still under investigation, shares chilling similarities.
The New Orleans attack involved Shamsud Din Jabbar, a former US Army veteran, who drove a pickup truck through a crowd. He was killed in a shootout with police after posting videos online declaring allegiance to ISIS and outlining his plans. An ISIS flag was found in his vehicle.
In the Las Vegas incident, 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger, also a US Army veteran, detonated a Tesla Cybertruck packed with explosives at the Trump International Hotel. Livelsberger, who was the sole casualty in the contained explosion, was found dead inside the vehicle along with gasoline canisters and large firework mortars.
The FBI’s parallel investigation focuses on the striking coincidences between the two attacks. Both suspects served in the US Army, reportedly at the same military base, and both rented their vehicles from the same app-based car rental service, Turo. While Jabbar’s service was less than a decade, Livelsberger served 18 years in Special Forces.
The FBI Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia stated at a press conference that Jabbar had initially planned to target family and friends, but changed his plan to achieve greater media attention for his cause.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine if the two incidents were coordinated or if the similarities are purely coincidental. The discovery of both men having served in the military at the same base adds a significant layer of complexity to the investigation.
